The Atlantic slope extends through the regions of Vizcaya,
Guipuzcoa, the continental Basque Country, the northern valleys of Alava, and
Northern Navarre. It is characterized by its
coast, lined with beautiful beaches of fine sand and ecologically valuable
cliffs. Also renowned is the abundance of mountains and green valleys that
complete the varied and attractive scenery.
The flow of predominantly Western winds moderates the temperatures in both
winter and summer. The annual temperature range is small, around 11º on
the coast. The annual average coastal temperature is 13-14º and is the
highest in the region.
In winter the average minimum temperature is around 4-5º on the coast, and
only slightly lower in the interior of the Cantabrian slope. In summer, the average
temperature is around 19º, with an average high temperature of 25º in
August.
The average number of days with rainfall ranges between 170-180 days.
