Places of interest
Old City Quarter
The Old City Quarter of Pamplona, of obvious medieval character, is an ideal
place to stroll and lose oneself among its vibrant streets. The Route of
Santiago passes along its Calle Mayor, and it is in its narrow streets where
the famous running of the bulls takes place, when youths run in front of the
bulls that will later fight in the bullring.
Square of the Castle
Without doubt it is the heart of Pamplona, the point that connects the
new city with the old. Its name derives from the fact that in the old
days it was the parade ground of the ancient castle. Currently it is
surrounded by beautiful buildings and sunny cafes and terraces where
the people of Pamplona meet for an appetizer.
Square of the Town Hall
The town hall of Pamplona is a beautiful building from the 18th century, but
its biggest attribute is that it is where the famous shot that starts the fiesta
of San Fermin takes place. Thousands of people from Pamplona and visitors throng
into its small square waiting for the event that will start the fiesta.
The Citadel
Constructed in the time of Philip II as a replica of the one at Antwerp, it is
a pentagonal fortification with five bastions on its angles in the form of
arrowheads. Once it lost its defensive character, it is currently one of the
most visited parks in Pamplona.
