Old City Quarter
Surrounded by the ruins of the ancient wall, the Old City Quarter of Bayonne
is a collection of vibrant and narrow streets of medieval origin, well populated
by a multitude of shops, chocolate boutiques, and charming corners. Strolling
through its streets one can take a journey through the history of the city.
Cathedral of Saint Mary
Constructed in the 18th Century over an ancient roman building, the Cathedral
of Saint Mary is in the heart of the city. It is notable for its tall and pointed
towers, as well as for its gothic façade, which was defaced during the
French revolution. The cloister is also beautiful.o.
Bonnat Museum
The Bonnat Museum is one of the great museums of France. Located in the heart
of Bayonne, in a magnificent building from the end of the 19th century. The Bonnat
Museum contains several municipal collections, among which are notable the paintings
and sculptures collected by the painter Leon Bonnat. Bonnat assembled this collection
between 1880 and 1900 and it contains works by the greatest artists, such as
Rubens, El Greco, Rafael, Degas, and Watteau.
