Ortillopitz, the Basque hamlet of Sara


In the top of Sara, Ortillopitz and its three hectares, offers a wonderful panoramic which’s beauty leaves the visitant without breath.

It is a beautiful hamlet from 1660, with a surface of six hundred square meters, divides n three levels, in an environment of another period with the grass, the apples, the vineyard and the orchard as in the XVII century, the botany flax and the other wonders. After watching the rock made washing place with the flowing near it, you will see the typical façade of the traditional houses from Lapurdi, with the wood made balconies and the porch in the entrance.

In the inside we find the cidre cellar, the Basque drink before the arrivals of the Romans with the wine. Some stairs with a banister, wore away because of the years coming of the humans, goes to a decorated kitchen with furniture from the XVII and XVIII century, rock sink...

There are also other rooms with treasures: the reception room of the armer, the first Oillopitz habitant, the bedrooms, the corridor decorated with wood from the XVII Century, the granary.

The guides from Oillopitz show us the history of this Basque village, telling us anecdotes and stories, narrating the traditions and customs of the life in the farming fields, and mostly the story about this old hamlet.
