As
in previous years, the Bilbao Aste Nagusia has presented a complete
and varied programme of events, with the main aim of bringing together,
in a long week in August, all the festive activity of the city. From
the 14th to the 22nd of August the city is transformed into a large
area of “fiestas”, where apart from the actual festivities,
there are bullfights, theatre, music and people.
It is true to say that Bilbao becomes an improvised
scenario, presenting a complete, varied and quality packed programme,
catering for all tastes and combining massively attended events with
other smaller gatherings.
As well as the bullfights, presenting some of
the top names, and the concerts including the performances of Andy &
Lucas, La Mala Rodríguez or Fermín Muguruza, we have the
traditional programme:
- Street Theatre, with daily
performances from 1.30 pm through to 9 pm in the Plaza del Arriaga
- Comedy Theatre, with sessions at 9 pm in the Sala
Bilborock
- the Aste Nagusia Pelota Tournament, which is held
at 11.30 am in the Frontón de La Esperanza
- open air cinema (at 11.15 pm in the Trasera of the
Abando Station)
- the Bilbao Municipal Steel Band performances (at
12.30 pm in the Kiosko of the Arenal)
- the Euskal Herria Dance Presentations (at 7 pm in
the Plaza Nueva)
- the numerous children’s activities which take
place in the Muelle de Ripa at 11 am and 5 pm.
- ballooning (at 8 pm in the Botica Vieja, with the
possibility of going up in a balloon, accompanied
by a monitor)
- the widely acclaimed Firework Display of the 14th Bilbao International
Competition (at 10.30 pm, with the exception of
the last day which takes place at 11 pm).
