PLACE
 Laguardia (Alava)

Situated on top of a hill and founded in the 10th century by the king Sancho Abarca of Navarre, the walled town of Laguardia is now the capital of rioja alavesa, and a town with a special attraction.

To talk about Laguardia is to talk about history, monuments which have seen a glorious past like the Wall and the New Gate, the Main Square, the Town Hall, la Church of Santa María de los Reyes (we stress its beautiful Gothic front), the Abacial Tower, from the 13th century and the Church of San Juan Bautista... but what we cannot forget is that to talk about Laguardia is to talk about wine, vineyards. The whole town is surrounded by vineyards and trails built underground, thus creating an underground city.

Without a doubt, it is a pleasure to get lost in its narrow medieval streets, breathe its ambiance, and, finally, enjoy exquisite food with the local specialities: potatoes with chorizo and chops grilled in coal, all of which must be accompanied by the excellent wines which can be found in the area.
