An event with a great tradition in the Basque Country and which can be considered the big gastronomic event in Bizkaia is the Agricultural Faire of the Last October Monday in Gernika. To tell the truth, the history of this market goes back to the 16th century, a time when two types of markets were celebrated: the one about forging, oriented towards the coal and minerals products, and the one about agriculture and cattle, which gave birth to the current Agricultural Faire.

This faire is one of the events which congragates more people in the region. In the last edition of this cheerful market, nearly 100,000 people attended this faire. It is a wonderful opportunity to purchase all kinds of natural products of the area (fruits, vegetables, typical products from the region, etc), which are offered in the many stands installed in the premises, surrounded by an incomparable festive environment. Furthermore, every year the eventl has the traditional competition in the departments of fruits, vegetables, flowers, cheeses, txakoli (typical Basque wine) and honey. The prizes are given by a jury to the best exponents of each product.
