As an announcer of the Basque Christmas, the Faire of Saint Thomas takes place in the main Basque cities on the 21st of December. This is a colourful agricultural market in which the main agricultural producers in the Basque Country take part. The best fruits and vegetables, the best turkeys and capons, as well as the delicious Idiazabal cheeses are exhibitted and sold in the middle of an exceptionally festive environment.

In this special day, the cities get dressed for the party with this open-air market, and it is not rare to meet childre dressed up as “baserritarras” (farmers) with their typical “txapelas”, the Basque fold music in the background and the stands full of visitors who fill their pantries for Christmas eve dinner.

This is, without a doubt, a great occasion to enjoy the colourful popular atmosphere while tasting a delicious talo (typical Basque tart) with chorizo with good Txakoli (typical Basque wine), characteristic of the famous Basque traditional gastronomy.
