Txakoli Day in Getaria (Gipuzkoa) |

As with every month of January, Getaria is to host its Txakoli Day on the 17th of this month, coinciding with the festival of San Antón, the patron saint of this seaside town. The week of cultural events programmed by this Guipuzcoan town to celebrate the festival of San Antón will therefore be crowned with the wine tasting ceremony of the first txakoli to be produced this year. The txakoli of Getaria is a young, white wine made from the autochthonous grape of the Basque Country. It has had a denomination of origin since 1989 and is produced in the surrounding areas of Getaria, Zarautz and Aia, whose vineyards cover a total area of 125 hectares . In total, 17 wine producers make this slightly carbonic txakoli, with its characteristic acidy taste of the grapes that grow in these rainy and coastal areas. |
